Hi! re more ideas about Yac contributions - how to pay for those who have time to do more at certain times? (first time doing this, so no lol)
Maybe Sienna and I can set up a checklist - keeping track of who sends what in every month so that they're paid at the end of the month. What about something like:
give bus pass by 1st of each month, Mr. Green and:
*then set aside the $100 for each YAC to "earn" through the month
*you get $25 "banked" to attend the first meeting of the month
*and can "bank" $ for other contributions - like an $50 article on any topic, $25 to enter 3 events into the calendar, $25 to do an interview in the community, $25 to research a site or summarize a book, $25 for half a day to look through our old ezines to find which articles could go into the site as is or need a bit of editing and sorting, even $25 for a half day helping do admin/marketing stuff Rolling Eyes - sending packages out and following up with phone calls, etc, maybe $25 per picture, or artwork you contribute on someone's behalf? i dunno whatever tasks ppl want. Very Happy
*Then, everyone has to send their "tasks completed" list to Sienna by the
20th of the month - at this point each YAC can earn up to $100 for that
month
*and, if one or more YAC hasn't had time to contribute, then they would put the rest of their $ back into a "working pool" that others can earn over the last 5 days of the month. In the meantime, if a YAC has already had more time to contribute, they can just keep submit those articles if they want.
(And, we should have a link in the articles to the author which links to
their bio / profile page!) Cool, eh?
*Then final disbursements submitted on 25th of month for cheques to be made up. so they can get paid by end of month.

Anyhow, if we make it easy to track and manage, then see how the YAC like the idea to try in January, or find another solution, then that would mean a lot less confusion and hopefully avoid disappointment. Basically, Sienna could use a form to track who did what by the 25th and submit for invoicing through me and Val and everyone should get paid on the 30th of the month then, depending on how much they did.
Ideas?

Tansi to my beautiful, talented brothers and sisters,

Thanks Kristin for an interesting breakdown of honorariums for the YAC. That system would certainly show appreciation for the work and contributions of the YAC members.

My concern is the added work for the RedWAY BC team, when efforts could be better used in other areas of the project like site and content development, organization, etc...

I'd like to see more discussion on who and what makes the RedWAY BC YAC. Directors? Portfolio Directors? An Aboriginal Youth Collective?

Depending on the makeup of the YAC, there can be different ways in which members can contribute and different levels of committment YAC members can...well committ to. YAC can be 10 Portfolio Directors/Writers, plus 20 Aboriginal Youth Contributors, plus 1000+ Aboriginal Youth Voices, whatever. With the YAC more defined, those of us who are crazy busy, but love the idea of the project, can decide where and how we want to be involved.

I feel strongly about the fact that if the YAC roles and levels of committment are more clearly outlined - this would help is retaining YAC members and will inform future members of how they can be a part of this great project.

Once that has been worked out, then a system of honorariums for the different YAC roles can be formulated.

I don't particularly like the idea of itemizing the forms of contribution, paying out $25 per interview, article, etc..., to a maximum of $100 per month. If YAC members can make a committment to a particular role (once those are more clearly defined and outlined), that should be enough to say that a YAC member is entitled to so-and-so amount of honourarium per month. I don't think it is too much to ask YAC members to inform the RedWAY BC team ahead of time of their level of committment for a month or even a quarter (3 months).

Just my two bits. I love the work of the RedWAY BC team and I am confident that us, youth, have a lot of great things to contribute and I value this form of information exchange.

Thanks all. Have a great holiday!

- Bree
