What
the RedWAY (Website for Aboriginal
Youth) Project is…
This is a comprehensive, dynamic
website that will be designed and
updated by
the Urban Aboriginal Youth of Greater
Vancouver. The goal is to provide
Urban Aboriginal Youth with an easy
to use
site to access information that they
need to survive and thrive in our
community. Youth Advisory Councils (YAC's) will
be responsible for gathering contact
names, links, and upcoming events for
their section of the website - so that
our site will always be the most current,
culturally-relevant and complete one-stop-shop
for every Aboriginal Youth coming to
or living in Greater Vancouver region.
Key
reasons to visit the site:
Driven by Youth - Youth Advisory Council
members will be out gathering news, information
and pictures to keep the content streetwise
and current
Free Membership - anyone can
view the site, but members can choose
to be notified
by e-zine and news pop-ups of events
and postings added to the site by YAC's
(like cultural events, job postings
in your field, rallies and announcements) Respect
for All Nations
Content of our site
will be catered to meet the various
needs of Urban
Aboriginal
Youth, but include a wealth of information
and resources for all Aboriginal
people: First Nations, Metis and Inuit,
status
and non-status, on-reserve and off-reserve,
regardless of age.
Fun and Easy to
Use
The designers and contributors to
this site have one key responsibility
-
to make it easy for Urban Aboriginal
Youth
to find resources, research opportunities
and access information -in a quick
and fun way.
Creating Connections!
As a jointly funded
project by Human Resource Development
Canada,
Heritage
Canada, Health Canada and Western
Economic Diversification, we
are excited to
help Urban Aboriginal Youth
connect to services
and agencies that can help
them succeed. We will be bringing
private and public
business sectors together with
youth to create healthy relationships,
and share employment opportunities
and
training initiatives project.
What
the RedWAY Project isn't…
Not Just a List of Links
This will be more than just a list of
links to other websites - our portal
will function with a front end synopsis
of external links - simply stated,
a summary of each outside site will
be easily accessible. Our YAC will
add 2 or 3 pages written in common
terms to help you find exactly what
you need… fast.
Not Just Another Government site
This site is being created by an Aboriginal
Youth Web Designer Janine Island of
ID+ (Indigenous Dynamics Plus). Youth
Advisory Council (YAC) members will
contribute the content, and help implement
an edgy, unique marketing strategy.
Although it is Federally-funded, it
is a site by Urban Aboriginal Youth,
for Urban Aboriginal Youth.
Not A Politically Positioned Site
Our goal is to honour and advocate for
all Urban Aboriginal Youth, so the
site will contain calendar information
about upcoming events, announcements
and initiatives and contact information
from all sides of the Urban Aboriginal
political arena. An interactive message/
debate board is also being considered
to encourage open, honest, proactive
and uncensored dialogue. All voices
will be invited to be shared and heard.
We hope that you’ll help keep
this site vibrant and current – send
us your event postings, suggestions and
feedback to inform and honour our future
leaders in the community.
